Drake and J. Cole Follow-Up

Posted on

As most of you have probably heard, both Drake and J. Cole have issued apologies and have decided to remove the line containing “autism” and “retarded” from their song, Jodeci Freestyle.

On behalf of my son, I want to thank them for doing the right thing, and doing it with grace. I hope the music industry takes note, and that artists steer clear of using these terms in a hurtful way in future music.

About Flannery

Kid, husband, dogs, my mother, full-time job, maximum stress, minimal relaxation...sooner or later I had to vent. AND we moved from California to Texas. I could start a whole other blog about that.

  2. I am glad that they did the right thing by apologizing and agreeing to change the lyrics. I also hope that it will send a strong message that intolerance is not okay…and also that there is value in “owning” one’s mistakes and trying to rectify them!

It is so inspiring the way the autism/autistic? community spoke up about this; between the Anna Kennedy Online/Anti-Bullying petition, my petition, and Bella Solimar of New York’s petition, there were nearly 9,000 signatures demanding action in just a matter of a few days! If only we can once again unite and stay united to advocate just as effectively for meaningful and evidence based services and resources to address the many unmet needs of children and adults on the spectrum and also their families…instead of all the infighting! Thanks for your wonderful posts.
